DAY 2. SELLICKS BEACH TO SECOND VALLEY

40 minutes (40 kilometres)

The next stop on our trip is to Second Valley, found on the Fleurieu Peninsula, which invites exploration and long slow coastal drives. Along the way, stop at Myponga Reservoir lookout for a leisurely stroll and take in the sights.

Second Valley

Second Valley's rocky coastline features inviting coves, tucked inbetween rambling rocks and narrow paths that connect quaint jetties with high cliffs.

DAY 3. SECOND VALLEY TO ROBE

5 hours (394 kilometres)

Day three is the longest stretch yet of this Adelaide to Melbourne roadie, taking a slightly inland route before coming out along the coast. Prepare for a day of lush scenery, from rolling hills and farmlands to the captivating coastline as you approach Robe. We hope you stocked up on snacks!

Robe

Robe calls itself South Australia's favourite coastal town, and it's easy to see why. This charming destination has miles of windswept beaches that stretch out on either side of its adorable town centre. The sandy shores are perfect for a stroll or a refreshing dip in the ocean.

The town itself has a rich history, with old buildings that tell tales of days gone by. Take a break from driving and do the historic walk that covers 45 places of interest, each offering a glimpse into Robe's rich past. The town's heritage trail is a delightful way to stretch your legs and learn about the area's history.

Whilst you're here, explore the town's charming streets filled with boutique shops, cafes, and restaurants. Sample local seafood or indulge in some retail therapy.

After a big day, a visit to the Robe Town Brewery wouldn't go a miss! Or if you're feeling a little fancy, why not visit a nearby winery, such as Cape Jaffa Wines or and sample a drop or two. The Limestone Coast is known for its excellent vineyards and cellar doors.

DAY 4. ROBE TO BEACHPORT

35 minutes (47 kilometres)

Day four means we're already over halfway through the trip! Time sure flies when you're having fun. Today, we have a short drive down the coast to Beachport.

Beachport

The main attraction here for anyone on four wheels is the Bowman Scenic Drive. The gently undulating road carries you past the Cape Martin Light House, and gives you views of the aptly named Penguin Island just off the shore.

As you continue down the coast, take your time to stop at various viewpoints. You'll find blow holes that shoot sea spray high into the air, spectacular rocky outcrops that create dramatic landscapes, and serene small lakes nestled among the dunes. Each stop offers a unique glimpse into the natural beauty of the area.

After a day of exploring, treat yourself to some local seafood at one of the quaint eateries in town. Nothing beats fresh fish and chips by the sea!

DAY 5. BEACHPORT TO THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD

5 hours (approximately 400 kilometres)

You could spend a week exploring the Great Ocean Road alone, but we've pulled together some highlights that you just won't want to miss.

Twelve Apostles National Park

Along this mind-boggling stretch of coastal highway, you'll find one of Australia's most iconic natural attractions, the Twelve Apostles. These impressive limestone structures are in Port Campbell National Park, where you'll also find incredible rock formations such as The Arch, The Grotto and London Bridge.

Cruising the Great Ocean Road

Cruising the Great Ocean Road you'll visually gorge yourself on natural wonders, and most likely use up all the space on your phone’s photo storage. You can spend the night in any of the small towns along the Great Ocean Road, but a couple of great options are Port Cambell and Apollo Bay.

One of the more thrilling ways to experience the Great Ocean Road is by doing a skydive. Skydive Australia offers an adrenaline-packed Great Ocean Road experience that will give you unforgettable views (and photos!) of the area.

DAY 6. GREAT OCEAN ROAD TO TORQUAY

2 hours (92 kilometres)

On the eve of your final day, this two-hour drive takes you through some of the most picturesque parts of the Great Ocean Road and ends at the laid-back seaside town of Torquay.

Mount Gambier

Although not directly on the route from the Great Ocean Road to Torquay, a detour to Mount Gambier is worth considering if you have extra time. Known for its stunning crater lakes, particularly the Blue Lake, Mount Gambier offers a unique natural wonder that changes colour throughout the year. The vivid blue waters of the lake are something special, especially during the summer months.

Bells Beach

Before you reach Torquay, make a stop at the world-famous Bells Beach. Known for its powerful swells, Bells Beach is a surfer's paradise and a must-visit for anyone travelling the Great Ocean Road. Head to the Bells Beach Lookout for stunning views of the coastline and to the watch surfers tackle the waves.

Torquay

Torquay is the official end (or start) point on the Great Ocean Road. The laid-back seaside town epitomises Australia's surf culture. There are rolling waves and chill vibes in equal measure. The beaches are pristine, the nature walks are relaxing, and there is even a Surfing Museum that explores Australia's quintessential pastime!

7. TORQUAY TO WESTGATE PARK

90 minutes (100 kilometres)

We're on the home stretch! As you roll into Melbourne, make time for a stop at Westgate Park. The salt lake in the park is a bright red hue, thanks to a pigment produced by algae in the water. The unusual lake is a great spot for photos and a picnic at the end of a day of driving before dropping off your JUCY campervan hire in Melbourne.
